Alberta Awarded Canadian Curling's First Triple Crown

Curling fans in the province will be happy to hear that the Canadian Curling Association recently awarded Alberta with three Season of Champions events, known as the Triple Crown, for the 2014-2015 season.

The Triple Crown will start with the 2014 Canada Cup which will be held December 3-7 at the Encana Arena in Camrose. Following the 2014 Canada Cup is the 2015 World Financial Group Continental Cup on January 8-11 at the Markin MacPhail Centre International Arena at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. The Triple Crown will end with the return of the Tim Hortons Brier to Calgary, which will be the seventh time Calgary has hosted this event. The 2015 Tim Hortons Brier Canadian men's championship will take place February 5 to March 8 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

“The Tim Hortons Brier is a significant tourism draw and economic driver, and we are excited to welcome this iconic Canadian event back to Calgary in 2015,” said Calgary Sport Tourism Authority Chair Doug Mitchell. “The benefits of hosting these major national and international events are significant – when Calgary hosted the 2009 Brier the event attracted an estimated 11,400 visitors and generated an estimated $14.9 million in economic activity for Calgary.”
