Calgary Music Spotlight: Chris Gheran
SPOTLIGHT on Chris Gheran
Chris Gheran writes and sings his fresh Hard Folk the old-fashioned way. Think an acoustic guitar. Think lyrics that touch your soul. Sounds like John Lennon. Writes like Bob Dylan. Performs like Chris Gheran. First album Monster (2008) rocks it out - band style, Coup d’etat (2010) is a solo collection of unique perspectives on war and society. Calgary (2011) has a calico sound! A 2012 highlight was riding the rails with Ian Tyson in a city tribute. Chris confidently opened for The Fray at Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary, played in Medicine Hat’s Tongue on Post Festival, performed at the Calgary Folk Music Festival and hosted the CFMF 2010 Youth Songwriter Competition. Chris’s opening act complemented The Wailin’ Jennys in Calgary’s beautiful Knox United Church in downtown Calgary, and the influential Jonathan Richman in the Martha Cohen Theatre in the Calgary Centre for the Performing Arts.
