Celebrating a Birthday in Calgary? Here’s Your Plan

Written by: Rachel Antony, Best of Calgary

Turn your birthday into a lifestyle with a night out in YYC with your closest group of friends. Whether you are the special guest or you’re planning for a friend, we’ve got you covered for the must-do food, drinks, and entertainment around the city that will make this birthday more memorable than the rest. Start the day off right with a hearty breakfast and see where the day takes you - we’ve put together some ideas for how to celebrate the right way.

11 a.m. Brunch at Native Tongues

Native Tounges

Spice up your usual brunch with a Mexican twist. Available on the weekends, Native Tongues serves up a mean brunch menu with authentic Mexican foods. No one is going to judge if you pair your Migas with a margarita… Bottoms up - it’s a day of celebration!

1 p.m. Big Rock Brewery Tour

Big Rock Brewery

Beer is always the answer, doesn’t matter the question, and when you’re looking for something the whole group will enjoy, getting to sample beer is a no-brainer. A beerologist will take you on a tour of Big Rock’s brewery, showing you the ropes for whipping up a cold one. At the end, you’ll get to sample whatever they currently have on tap.

4 p.m. Happy Hour and Bowling at National on 10th

National Bowling

Get a little competitive and head to the basement of National for a friendly game (or two) of bowling. Make sure you book your lanes beforehand because it gets busy and bring your A-game. While you bowl, sip on beer or cocktails from their happy hour menu, and maybe get in a couple games of ping pong.

7 p.m. PM Dinner at Rodney’s Oyster House

Rodney's

Just a few steps away from National, Rodney’s is the perfect place for a big group. You can start with a customized Smoker’s Platter and then dig into one of their delicious main dishes. There isn’t a shortage of flavours or oysters, and there is something on the menu for everyone.

10 p.m. Party at Aussie Rules

Aussie Rules Piano Bar

A dueling piano bar? Yes, please. The infectious energy and wild piano playing will have you dancing on the tables in no time. It’s never a dull moment at Aussie Rules, from piano to comedy to sing-alongs, your group will have a night that they’ll never forget.
