Flashlight Nights at the Calgary Corn Maze

The Calgary Corn Maze is fun and challenging at any time, but just think of trying to navigate the paths at night using only your flashlight!  Flashlight nights are an extremely popular activity as guests love getting lost in the dark. Bring your flashlights and your sense of direction... you’ll need both.

Screamfest

When: Oct. 4-5, 11-12, 18-19, 25-27 & 31, 2013
Where: The Grandstand Building, Stampede Park, 20 Roundup Way S.E., Calgary, AB

ScreamFest, Canada's largest and scariest halloween event, is introducing their own brand of Western Hostility down at Stampede Park. You might just run away crying from the Grandstand Building and out onto the racetrack. Yahoo indeed.

At ScreamFest you will experience haunted houses, Halloween themed carnival games, creepy and disturbing entertainment, and FEAR. Although they do admit anyone, this event is rated PG13 – they are out to really, really scare adults. This event is NOT recommended for young children or the faint of heart.

Harvest Pumpkin Hunts at Butterfield Acres

When: Oct. 5-6, 12-13, 19-20 & 26-27, 2013
Where: Butterfield Acres Farm, 254077 Rocky Ridge Rd., Calgary, AB

Jump on a tractor-pulled hay wagon and roll through the crunchy fall leaves to find some kid-sized pumpkins! Once the pumpkins are found, you'll bring them back and decorate them into creative pumpkin-head masterpieces! While the glue sets up, everyone can have a visit with their favorite animal friends in the farmyard. It's harvest fun at it's best!

Calgary Zombie Walk

Gather your closest friends and stumble down Stephen Avenue, in your zombie attire that is. Follow the zombie herd as they make their way through downtown Calgary.

EEEKo Halloween Family Event

When: Oct 12-13, 19-20, 26-27 & 31, 2013
Where: Calgary's Farmers' Market, 510 - 77 Ave. S.E., Calgary, AB

EEEKo Halloween Family Event is a fundraiser for Evergreen Theatre hosted by the Calgary Farmers' Market. This fun-filled event will boast a 2,400 square foot walk-thru featuring some fun and not-so-scary Halloween favourite characters. Trick or Treat your way through to visit the Witch in her kitchen, Fortune Teller, Mad Scientist's Lab , Caged Beast, & Captain of the Sea Pirate Cove. Each child will receive a treat at each station connected to an Eco initiative. This part of the Haunt will be presented by REAP and several of its members. This event also features several haunted displays with spooky lighting and special effects.

Don't forget to get your ticket to the newest puppet show on the Big Green Puppet Bus. This 20-minute musical show will celebrate the Halloween holiday and offer some great eco tips to do it in a planet-respectful way!

Haunted Atlas Coal Mine

It's more than just a haunted house; the Haunted Atlas Coal Mine is an entire industrial site gone bad. This terrifying event held at the Atlas Coal Mine Historic Site is known as the most authentic Halloween event in Alberta! Victims drive from Calgary and Edmonton to experience this haunted Halloween activity. This event is great for both adults (Big Boo) and little ones (Little Boo).

Oktoberfest at Spruce Meadows

The Oktoberfest Tournament welcomes horses and riders to the Spruce Meadows Equi-Plex. Competitions in this Tournament range in height from 0.90m to 1.40m. The Oktoberfest is the perfect tournament to experience competition up-close and in the indoor comfort of the Equi-Plex. You and your family are welcome to join and watch the competitions, wander through the barns and enjoy a hot chocolate in the stands. Admission and parking are complimentary.

Fright Fest

Celebrate Halloween this year at Hotel Arts. Fright Fest is an event for the classy, with music by DJ Thunder, food and, of course, costume. There will be more than $2000 in prizes along with a prize for best costume. Have fun while helping to support the arts in Calgary. Proceeds from this event will go to the Calgary Opera, Old Trouts puppet workshop, Green Fools Theatre and Alberta Arts Flood Rebuild.

Sci Fi Night at RAO

If you prefer a Halloween event that isn’t too frightening, you can spend a night under the stars at the University of Calgary’s Rothney Astrophysical Observatory. Sci Fi Night at RAO is a tribute to science fiction that includes readings from Calgary's science fiction writers and a presentation by George Melnyk from the university's department of film studies. Munch on some snacks, participate in trivia contests, enjoy music and, of course, star gazing. It’s still Halloween though, so bring your best costume!
