Stampeding buffaloes can reach speeds of up to 50 km/hour – that’s just one of many things to learn when you visit Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump Interpretive Centre.
The site is one of the world's largest, oldest, and best-preserved buffalo jumps in the world. A treasure trove of prehistoric artifacts and information about archeology, the centre's exhibits include a detailed look at the prehistoric life in the area, buffalo hunt ceremonies and the ecology of the region.
To get there from Calgary, head south on Hwy. 2 for approximately 160 km, until you see the signs for Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump and Hwy. 785 West. The turnoff for Hwy 785 is approximately one kilometre north of the major intersection with Hwy. 3.
