CONTRASTS: Kiwanis Rose Bowl Winners

Sat Jun 8 - Fri Jun 7

CONTASTS Chamber Music Festival 2013 will feature such diverse musical styles as classical, folk, and new music – a wide spectrum designed to showcase a multitude of musical talent. The centerpiece of this year’s Festival is Gravity and Grace, a celebration dedicated to one of Canada’s greatest composers, Allan Gordon Bell, Member of the Order of Canada and University of Calgary professor. The evening will showcase the premiere of a new work by Bell, commissioned by the Land’s End Chamber Ensemble and James Campbell, the launch of a new CD, and commemorate Bell’s 60th birthday.

Other festival highlights include performances by Erhu virtuoso and University of Calgary graduate student, Yumeng Wang, Edmond Agopian and the Contrasts Festival String Ensemble, Duo Solista, and the winners of the 2013 Frank Simpson CYO Concerto Competition and Mount Royal Conservatory’s Calgary Youth Orchestra with guest conductor Gareth Jones. The 2013 Kiwanis Rose Bowl winner John Chan, and 1994 Kiwanis Rose Bowl winner, Lana Henchell close the festival with an inspiring concert.

All performances take place at 8 p.m. in the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall, Rozsa Centre. Tickets for May 29, 31 and June 7 are $12, tickets for May 24 are $20, and festival passes are $30 and can be purchased at the door.
